Forgiveness Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you that in your perfect plan of love you made a way for us to receive complete forgiveness through Christ Jesus' sacrifice. Your grace and mercy are the pathway to life, healing, and wholeness in all relationships.

Lord, I confess and repent of my sins - the pride, fear, control, independence, idolatry and judgments that bind my heart. I have held onto bitterness and unforgiveness, and I ask that you forgive me, and release forgiveness and blessings on those who have hurt me. Lord Jesus, thank you that on the cross you took the payment for all our sins and all the sins against us. In acknowledgement of our right relationship with God through you, we bring to you now those places where we need to ask your forgiveness. [Pause for silent confession.]

We thank you that there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. I believe your words that my transgression has been removed as far as the east is from the west. Thank you that you have cleansed my conscience that I might serve the one true and ever-living God. Lord, I forgive myself for separating myself from your love and forgiveness in all my life situations. Help me to receive your love and forgiveness today.

Lord, I know you don't need forgiving, but I acknowledge my resentment of you and blaming you for the pain and suffering in my life. Forgive me for my judgments, fears, distrust and anger at you for my life situations, Sovereign God of love and mercy. Lord, please give me a right understanding of your perfect love, and pour out a spirit of wisdom and revelation that I might know you better.

Lord, I forgive family members for any way in which they brought pain and sorrow through rejection, neglect, control, judgments, fear and abuse. I lift them to you Lord. I forgive them for hurting me, neglecting me or not being present for me. I forgive them for making me feel unloved, alone, ashamed, or worthless. [Pause to reflect how this applies, personally, and add any other feelings the Holy Spirit leads you to bring into the light.]

I release them from my judgments and ask for forgiveness for my negative responses of disrespect, pride, shame, jealousy, blame, and bitter resentments. I ask you to bless every member of my family with your abundant joy, love and peace, and to break any unhealthy soul ties so that we might learn to love and honor one another with your unconditional love. Thank you that this is possible by your Holy Spirit living within us.

Lord, help me to forgive all those who have hurt me. Help me to recall, and fearlessly bring into the light, those broken relationships and hurts so your healing can come. [Quietly name individuals as the Holy Spirit reveals. If there are people you can't forgive right now, just ask the Lord to hold on to your pain for now.]

Lord, I know that forgiveness is a life-long process, and I commit to continually give you all those people toward whom I have bitterness and resentment because of the ways they have treated me and wounded me, not loving me as you have commanded. Lord, I choose to I forgive them for hurting me and making me feel 'less-than.' I ask that you forgive them and break the judgments and bitterness I have held against them by the power of your cross and blood.

Heavenly Father, please fill me with your own love for myself, my family, all these people and for the Lord Jesus Christ, who I believe is your Son who died for us, was resurrected for us and lives today to intercede for us. Please fill me anew with Jesus' love, peace, power, joy, forgiveness and abundant life as he binds up the broken places. Fill me afresh with your Holy Spirit that your living water might flow through me for your glory and for the blessing of all people.

In the powerful name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen
